i noticed that in the poster's info block to the right of the post text, for some users it says: "please do the math to help us avoid junk-messages"
...what is that all about, and how does me balancing my checkbook (doing math) stop spammers?

I believe it's to prevent bots from registering with the site and spamming it. Sort of like CAPTCHA which you've likely seen on other sites.

Yeah - sorry - that's a little bug that popped up when I updated the forums software - it isn't supposed to be there. I'll try to figure out why it's there!

not a problem...i was just wondering if i was supposed to be doing something to fight spam that i didn't know about.
